This week is national care leavers week, 26-30 October. NeuroLove would love to take this time to raise awareness and to celebrate the amazing achievements of care leavers from all across the UK. At NeuroLove we think it is important to recognise the achievements of all those who are care experienced and to understand the unique challenges which they may have to overcome. This year we have seen our care leaver family struggle with isolation during lockdown periods, endure periods of uncertainties caused by housing or job losses but most of all, a tremendous amount of resilience. Be proud of yourself. The climate around the world has not stopped a group of determined young film makers from making their voice heard. A group of young care leavers at NeuroLove are telling their own stories of the care system through micro-documentaries. These care leavers want to empower and inspire others to tell their stories. This opportunity has been provided by Sheffield Documentary Festival. These young care leavers have been warmly welcomed into the film industry to work alongside experienced professionals. These films will tell the personal accounts of the failures of the judicial and fostering services in order to break the stigma. We invite you this care leaver week to help us fight the stigma of being care experienced. Please be kind and help support those who may be struggling. If you are struggling or just want a friendly chat, we are here to talk: https://neurolove.org/book-a-chat/.
